Up until a couple years ago I had never tried a tres leches cake! But after we sold our house, put everything we owned in a storage pod, and started driving and roadschooling we got to try a lot of new things. We spent a month down in Texas and saw this tres leches cake recipe mexican everywhere – grocery stores to restaurants! So we tried it, and loved it. The three milk cake recipe has three different types of milk that combine to make a very moist comfort food cake.  But not all tres leches recipes were as good, like with any food the recipe matters. So I messed around with creating the best tres leches cake recipe and voila! This is our favorite – strawberry trew leches cake.

Easy tres leches cake

All you need are a few simple ingredients to make this delicious cake:

  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1  cup whole milk
  • 6 ounces evaporated milk
  • 7 ounces condensed milk
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup fine white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Strawberries, sliced for top

Start by preheating your oven to 350 F. Grease and flour a 9×13 pan.

In a bowl mix the first 6 ingredients – flour, baking powder, butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla.

Now pour the batter into your prepared pan and cook in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

Now, in a bowl mix the three milks – 1 cup whole milk, 6 ounces evaporated milk, and 7 ounces condensed milk.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup butter melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup condensed milk
  • 1 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup fine white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • sliced strawberries garnish

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease and flour a 9x13 pan.
  • In a medium sized bowl mix flour, baking powder, butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Pour batter into the prepared pan and cook for 30 minutes.
  • Take the cake out of the oven and prick the cake all over with fork.
  • In a bowl mix 1 cup each of the tres leches: whole milk, evaporated milk, and condensed milk. When the milks are well blended, pour the mixture over the cake slowly so the cake can absorb the milks.
  • Now in a bowl mix the frosting. Whip heavy cream, fine white sugar, and vanilla until thick. Spread the whipped cream frosting over the cake. Top with sliced strawberries. This cake is best the first day, but if there are any leftovers, keep them refrigerated.
