CVC Words Activities
This activity will give your preschooler, kindergartner, and first grader plenty of cvc words practice as they will use phonics skills to decode the case and figure out the CVC Word.
They will look at their case file which contains clues to decipher and decode a 3 letter cvc word or a 4 letter cvc word. They will say the first picture out loud and listen for the sound at the beginning of the word. They will then write the letter in the box below it. Continue with the remaining clues.
Above the student would see the first picture is a ball. Ball starts with b so they would write a b in the box. Next they would say eagle out loud and hear the long “e” and write the letter. Finally they would see a door and write a d in the final box. They have spelled the CVC word bed.
Most words have short vowels and make traditional phonics sounds, but we did throw in a couple of more challenging sounds for first grade students who are learning long vowels too. If your student is not ready for the next level, just pull out those words. You can easily find which words to pull out by using the answer key.
Now sound out the word they spelled and they should have a CVC word. Included with the printable is an answer key to help you out if you get stumped or to quickly correct students work.
Continue completing as many of the 36 cases as you have time for. Each case they complete will help children improve phonemic awareness, spelling, reading readiness, and improve fluency with key words. This is such a fun kids activity!

This is so cute put when I downlaod it and print it, its too big for the paper…is there a way to fix the formatting?
Hmmmmm, try going under print options and select scale to fit. Should fix it no problem =)
