Contraction Puzzles

Are you working on contractions grammar? Your student in grade 1, grade 2, grade 3, and grade 4 will love kearning contractions in English with these adorable Crab Contraction Puzzles! A contraction word is a word made by shortening and combining two words. Words like I’ll (I + will) and she’s (she + is) are all contractions taught in English grammar (language arts) typically in early elementary school. The best way for kids to learn which combination of words can make contractions is by practicing a lot. We love turning learning into a game so kids are excited about learning and engaged with the material; it also helps them remember it better too. THis contraction game is perfect for a hands-on contraction actvitiy for children to remember common contractions. You can see the contractions grammar list farther down in this post.

Contraction words

Students will find the two arm words that make up the contraction crab body and place them to complete the crab (see above left).

HINT: You can make them self correcting if you like by placing a color/shape sticker on the back of the crab and the corresponding arms for students to check at the end of the activity.

  1. Love your products but whenever I print the background is all black which means I can’t use them. Any suggestions?

    1. Very odd. I suggest downloading the product first. Then print from the downloaded copy. Sometimes your internet connection or goggle drive speed can affect the rendering.
