2 cups of apple cider vinegar was way too much Ruined the recipe and couldn’t even eat it
Maybe it should have been 2 cups beef broth and 1/2 cup apple cider? Plus the strong smell of vinegar in my house as it cooked was not pleasant

    1. I think you misread the recipe. It calls for 2 cups of apple cider. There is NO vinegar of any kind in the recipe. I agree that would ruin it. Sorry, I know those little things are frustrating.

    2. Heather, do you know what apple cider is? Do you think apple cider and apple cider vinegar are the same thing?

    3. Apple Cider…. Not Apple Cider Vinegar….

Delicious! I think the potato amount was a little high for the amount of stew but I was not upset to have extra 🙂

Delicious recipe! This deserves higher than the current rating because someone misread an ingredient…it was a big hit in our household and perfect as a fall dinner staple. Next time I’d like to substitute in a bit more apple cider to give it a bit more of that flavoring but otherwise very delicious!

Excellent— just added fresh thyme and a bay leaf to the cooking process

So easy and so yummy!! Made this for a get together and it was a big hit. I omitted the cheese and chives from the mash, but it was delicious nonetheless. Fall on a plate!

  6. Hi, could the recipe be made ahead of time – up to the point of putting it in the oven to cook? I would love to make it all the night before and have my kids put it in the oven when they get in from school so it could cook and be ready for dinner.

    1. Absolutley The stew can be made ahead and kept warm in a crockpot or heated up later.

Made this for dinner last night and it was fantastic! Added a little thyme and a bay leaf, as was suggested. Also tossed in a handful of fresh sliced mushrooms before it went into the oven. Wanted to keep this gluten free, so instead of using flour, I tossed the beef and veggies with a little cornstarch and then stirred in a few Tbsp of potato flour when it came out of the oven. This will be added to our regular rotation for fall and winter dinners.
