Sh and Ch Words

However, some children have trouble pronouncing words with the “sh” and “ch” sounds. It’s actually a common challenge for younger kids as they are developing their speech skills.

Research has shown that children often struggle with the “sh” and “ch” sounds because they involve the coordination of different parts of the mouth. The “sh” sound is made by pushing air through a small opening created by the tongue and teeth, while the “ch” sound requires a similar air release but with the tongue positioned slightly further back in the mouth.

So, if you hear a child having difficulty with these sounds, just remember that it’s a normal part of their speech development. With practice and patience, most kids are able to eventually master these sounds. Keep encouraging them and celebrating their progress!
