Grocery Task Cards Money Games
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Download this free printable of Priced Groceries and Task Cards BELOW.
- Copy paper or card.
- use laminator for durability
- Real or play money will make it a more genuine shopping experience.
- Scrap paper and pencil (for jotting down prices)
Here’s what to do:
- Let the children look through the priced cards and work out how much each item costs.
- If they have real or pretend money, count out the value of each item and place it on top of the cards.
- Look through the task cards and choose one. Find the related items and work out how much it will cost if the items are added together. Encourage this to be a mental math activity, just like it is at the shops… even rounding the numbers so they’re approximately correct as you might when shopping. For eg, looking at $1.10 + $1.30 and thinking ‘it’s around $2.50.’ Then, children can count out the correct money.
- Provide scrap paper and pencils for children to write down the prices if it helps.
