Unlike the other woodwind instruments, the flute is held to the right side, horizontal to the ground. The sound is made by blowing across the hole. • Contra-Bass Clarinet – This giant among clarinets produces the lowest pitches of any clarinet type.

A reed is a thin strip of material, usually made from cane, that vibrates to produce sound when air is blown through the instrument. Without the reed, the clarinet wouldn’t be able to create those beautiful melodies we love!
