CVC Word Activity
The printable itself just has a bus printed on it. Once it is printed, grab some post it notes and get started. You will love that with just one bus template you can do a variety of back to school activities with preschoolers, kindergartners and grade 1 students. We planned it as a fun cvc word activity to help children practice reading. They can switch out the first letter to make word families with post its. But after doing the cvc words activity for a while we found another fun way to use this first week fo school activities – working on name recognition. THis is such a quick and easy activity for the first day of school! All you need for these activities:
- school bus template (below)
- sticky notes (we used small rectangle size)
- pen
Kindergarten Name Activity
The first that came to mind is a name activity. You can write a child’s name on the bus itself and then each letter of their name on a post it.
Name Recognition Activity
They can then unscramble the post its and place them in the order they should be.
CVC Words Activity
The same can be done for sight words also. If you laminate the bus mat, you can use dry erase markers to write the sight words. Then you can change them up as often as you would like. Having each letter on the post it notes can help children really work on letter recognition and sight word spelling.
Sticky Note Activities
Another simple activity is to do alphabet. Write the letter and then have children find the matching post it.
An additional idea is to use this mat for math. You could do missing numbers, complete the pattern, simple addition, and so much more.
