    1. Unfortunately I would not recommend A Year Down Yonder. Although it is well-written and contains the qualities of a living book, the grandma is not a good role model. She lies boldly in almost every chapter and it turns out for the better. I believe there is also bad language. Both of Richard Peck’s award winners were not as good as his other books, in my opinion. I would recommend Fair Weather or On Wings as Heroes instead. Same living book quality, far less objectionable material.
