Snail Life Cycle for Kids
Did you know that snails have a fascinating life cycle? Snails start off as eggs laid in moist soil or vegetation. These eggs hatch into baby snails, called hatchlings, which are usually very tiny and fragile. As they grow, they develop a hard shell to protect their soft bodies.
Snails are hermaphrodites, meaning they have both male and female reproductive organs. When they reach maturity, they begin mating by exchanging sperm with another snail. After mating, each snail will lay a clutch of eggs in a hidden, moist place, such as under rocks or in crevices.
The newly laid eggs will hatch into tiny snails that will begin the cycle all over again. It’s amazing to think about the intricate and unique life cycle of these slow-moving creatures!
