One of my kids’ favorite games is battleship, so I decided to whip up a free sight word game in a battleship style. Battleship is one of those classic games that we probably all played as a kid but also ones that our kids will love playing too, if given the opportunity. I know my kids absolutely love the competition and clean fun that Battleship brings! I switched this one up and made a Sight Word Battleship game to help my children practice their sight words in a fun and engaging way. This sight word practice is sure to engage even reluctant learners! Sight word games for kindergarten

This game is super simple to prep. Once it’s prepped, you can play over and over again and your kids will never get bored. Plus they will be practicing sight words while they do it. It’s the best of both worlds.  Another thing that I love is that this game can easily be put into a file folder and taken on the road, to restaurants or even taken with you to times when kids have to wait.

To prep this, print the game boards off. The file only has one sheet, so just print it twice. They are the same. You can simply fold the paper and use it like pictured, or you can put it into a folder. This is strictly up to you. However you want to play, this can be done.

Grab something to mark your spaces like goldfish crackers, lego, skittles, etc.

Each player places the 5 markers in random places, with only one marker in a single square, on their board. Once the guessing begins, the players may not move the ships.The first player will start by calling out coordinates, for instance A1. After saying the coordinate, also say the sight word. The other player will respond with yes or no, if the first player chose a square with a marker or not. If you choose a square with a marker, on the other person’s board, mark it down that you chose the right one. Then the opposite player follows along the same lines.

The first person to guess all 5 markers correctly, wins.
