Jesus is the light of the world craft

John came to tell others about the light in darkness. To begin our Sunday School class we did some really fun glow in the dark games to help kids remember “light in the darkness”.  Note: We had several small lamps throughout the room to not be “pitch dark” and had one small group room that had light and a coloring sheet in case any of the kids were uncomfortable – they weren’t. They LOVED it!

Glow in the Dark Hopscotch

In our dark room (with only a couple small lamps) we had 3 black lights spread throughout our large room to make the neon duct tape glow. (as seen above).
It really looked super cool!  We used bean bags with this classic game.

Glow in the Dark Bowling

We made the bowling lane using more glow sticks. The pins were water bottles with glow sticks inside them. We had a glow in the dark ball (size L or XL) the kids used.

Books of the Bible Sort

We also had the books of the bible listed on neon paper. The kids had to stick it on the Old or New Testament wall.

John the Baptist Craft

For our craft we made a name craft.  Basically on cardstock, have kids spell their name in liquid glue. Then sprinkle the top with glitter and shake off extra in a bin (the leftover glitter can be used for the next person).

God had a special purpose for Zechariah and Elizabeth’s baby. John the Baptist told people to get ready for Jesus, the coming Messiah. God knew John’s name long before Zechariah and Elizabeth did. God knows each of our names too, and He has a plan for each of us.

It was such a fun, memorable Sunday school lesson!
