Learning letters doesnโ€™t have to mean that your child sitsย silently reading and writing the same thing over and over and over again. Nope.ย Developing early literacy skills can be fun, creative and even exciting. How?

Painted Alphabet Art for Kids - this is such a fun kids activity to reinforce alphabet letters with toddler, preschool, prek, and kindergarten age kids

Painted Alphabet Art for Kids

Your child is learning the letters. Taking the lessons up aย notch or two and getting artsy with the alphabet can draw your child into theย subject matter in a way that other methods may not. Okay, so no one is sayingย that this is a magic fix or an instant way for your child to suddenly learnย everything there is to know about the alphabet. But, it is a creative way toย help your child learn the content at hand.

This kidsโ€™ art activity uses water colors, paper and much more. Not only is it an imaginative way to learn about the alphabet, but itโ€™s also a sensory experience too. So, how can your child use her senses and what will she learn through this activity?

Your child will learn and explore:

  • Letter recognition and identification
  • Color recognition
  • Fine motor skills โ€“ eye-hand coordination
  • Sensory exploration โ€“ sight, touch
  • Science โ€“ exploring how water mixes with paint

Art Activity Extensions

Your child doesnโ€™t have to stop at one letter. She can alsoย draw several different letters, eventually putting the pieces of art togetherย to make a word. As your child continues to make art letters, she can stringย them into sentences.ย Another option is to change up the sensory aspect of theย activity. Instead of using craft felt, try glitter and glue, a tissue paperย collage or colorful craft sand.
