1/2teaspoonvanilla extract
2teaspoonsground cinnamon
1/3cupgranulated sugar
3cupsapplespeeled and shredded
1cupwalnutschopped
Glaze
1/3cuppowdered sugar
1Tablespoonmilk
Instructions
First, melt 5 tablespoons of butter in a large, heatproof mixing bowl for about 30 seconds. Next, add ¾ cup of milk, ¼ cup of water, and ¼ cup of sugar to the bowl. Pop it back in the microwave for an additional 10 to 20 seconds until the mixture reaches a warm 120 to 130 degrees. Now, sprinkle in the yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes
Next, add the eggs and mix them in thoroughly. Then, gradually incorporate the flour. Once everything is well combined, use your hands to knead the mixture into a soft, spongy ball.Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel and place it in a warm, draft-free spot to let it rise for 1 hour
As the dough rises, let’s get started on that delicious filling! Melt 1/2 cup of butter in the microwave, then mix in the vanilla, cinnamon, and 1/3 cup of sugar for a delightful flavor combo. Next, peel, core, and grate some fresh apples, then fold them into the cinnamon mixture. Finally, chop up some nuts and stir them in
Once your dough has finished rising, gently knead it a few times before placing it on a lightly floured surface. Be sure to dust the top of the dough with flour too! Then, grab your rolling pin and roll it out into a lovely 20-inch square
Spread the delightful cinnamon apple mixture evenly over the dough, ensuring every inch is covered. Next, generously sprinkle chopped walnuts across the top for that perfect crunch. Now, cut the dough into 5 vertical strips and then 5 horizontal strips, creating 25 tasty squares
Stack three or four squares together and place them on their sides in a standard loaf pan that you’ve sprayed with cooking spray. Repeat the process with the remaining squares, stacking them loosely to fill the pan. Once done, cover the pan with plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm spot for 30 minutes while the oven preheats to 350 F
Once you’ve removed the plastic wrap, pop the bread in the oven at 350°F for 25 to 30 minutes. While it bakes, let it cool for a few minutes as you whip up the glaze
Whip up a delicious glaze by mixing powdered sugar with milk! Once it’s smooth, drizzle it generously over your freshly baked bread. Trust us, it’s the perfect finishing touch. Serve warm.
