Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F. While that’s warming up, grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans to ensure your cake slides out perfectly.Next, sift together 2 cups of flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a bowl. Once that’s done, set it aside and get ready for the next step.
In a large bowl, combine 1 cup of softened butter with 1 1/2 cups of granulated sugar. Cream them together until the mixture is light and fluffy. Then, beat in 8 egg yolks, one at a time, making sure each one is fully incorporated before adding the next. Finally, stir in 1 1/2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract for that perfect touch of flavor.
Mix in the flour mixture alternating with 3/4 cup of milk, stirring gently until everything is just combined
Bake in your preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the tops spring back when gently tapped
Once done, let them cool for about 15 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack
Chocolate Frosting
Using a handheld or stand mixer with a whisk attachment, start by beating 1 cup of butter on high speed for about 3 minutes until it’s creamy and light in color. Remember to scrape down the sides of the bowl to incorporate everything!
Next, add in 3 cups of confectioners’ sugar, 1/2 cup of cocoa powder, 3-4 tablespoons of heavy cream, 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt (1/4 teaspoon should do). Mix until everything is well combined and you have a rich, fluffy frosting!Note: You can add another Tablespoon of heavy cream if needed to thin the frosting.
